The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) estimates that the interest on deposits will continue to decline but at a slower rate. The decline in interest rates has slowed down since the end of 2021, while liquidity conditions are still positive. At the end of January 2022, the average rates amongst the LPS banks fell 6 basis points to 3.2%. Meanwhile, in February 2022, the banks’ lending activities grew by 6.33% on a year-on-year basis, in line with increased economic activities. Spokesperson from LPS shared the need for banks to prepare for changes in depositor behaviours due to increased digital services which would affect the competitive landscape between banks.
