Internet tariff in Indonesia is the 12th cheapest globally, according to a cable.co.uk report. Cellular operators warned that this may threaten the sustainability of the telecommunications sector in the country. The average price for mobile internet packages in Indonesia is US$ 0.42 per gigabyte (GB) or around IDR 6,000. Director & Chief Regulatory of Indosat Ooredoo, Hutchison Danny Buldansyah. said that there are three aspects in determining internet tariffs by cellular operators, namely cost, people’s purchasing power, and competition. Meanwhile, what makes internet tariffs in Indonesia affordable is driven by unhealthy price competition within the sector. He supported this claim by highlighting the slow growth in income of cellular operators, which is not in line with the 5x growth of internet traffic in Indonesia from 2018 to 2021.
